Distilleries have plenty of hiding places for rodents to sneak around, so that’s why it’s important for distilleries to have a cat. That’s why Brad Thomas Parsons has written a new book called Distillery Cats.

Irish and Scottish distilleries were particularly reliant on cats, but the most famous distillery cat was Towser the Mouser of Glenturret, Scotland’s oldest working distillery. Towser reportedly killed over 28,000 mice during her 24-year tenure, which ended upon her death in 1987.

If you thought your cat was lazy in not catching enough mice, now you have a baseline to judge your cat by.
