There’s a saying that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. There’s never a saying about teaching cats tricks because cats won’t listen to you anyway, or at least that’s what people thought until the latest research study.
Dr. Lori Kogan of Colorado State University experimented with 100 shelter cats and discovered that no matter the age, sex, or shyness of the cat, around 80% of the cats could be taught basic training and nearly 30% could be taught something more difficult like sitting on cue.
So it’s possible to teach your cat a trick or two. Then again, it’s far more likely that your cat will simply bend you to its will and you’ll never bother trying.
