If you put up a Christmas tree and watched your cat climb and destroy it, it’s not your cat’s fault. According to science, your cat is hard-wired to be attracted to lights, shiny objects like ornaments, and trees set up in the middle of a room.

“Those ornaments you hang on the tree turn it into a giant cat toy,” said Mikel Delgado, a cat researcher the University of California Davis’ School of Veterinary Medicine.

Strangely, one way to keep cats from walking near a Christmas tree is to put aluminum foil around it. For some odd reasons, cats don’t like walking on aluminum foil, so that will keep them away from the Christmas tree.
