Back in 2013, Nick and Paul Sandford, the owners of Grenade, struck a licensing deal with Grumpy Cat Limited to sell a line of iced coffees called “Grumpy Cat Grumppuccino.” Then in 2015, the beverage company created a line of “Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee,” which was not in the original deal, prompting Grumpy Cat Limited to file a copyright lawsuit in federal court.

Grumpy Cat won that lawsuit along with $710,001 in damages. Despite winning a large amount off money, Grumpy Cat is still not smiling (although her owner is). So the next time you make a deal with Grumpy Cat, you better follow through on that deal or else the courts (and Grumpy Cat) will come after you.
