Most places in the world have a feral cat problem where there are too many cats and not enough people to adopt them. Jakarta has been rabies free since 2004 but it takes constant effort to capture cats, vaccinate them, and spay or neuter them.

If people would stop dumping cats in the wild and took care of them, that would go a long way to minimizing the problem. Until that happens, government officials in Jakarta will be resigned to capturing and neutering cats over and over again.

If you have unwanted cats, please don’t dump them in the wild. At the very least, bring them to a shelter so they can get vaccinated and fixed so they don’t create more feral cats to cause problems in the future.
