When 103-year old Lillian Grant lost her cat, Sammy, a year ago, she was heart-broken. When Debbie Presland, the administrator at Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living in St. George, Utah, where Grant lives, asked the centenarian what she’d want if she could pick anything in the world for her birthday present, Lillian said, “A sweet cat like Sammy.”

Presland went to a local animal shelter and found a 9-year old cat named Marley, whose previous owner had to give her up when she moved into an assisted living facility. On Lillian’s 103rd birthday, Presland brought out Marley as Lillian’s surprise birthday present, and the two took to each other immediately. Now Lillian has a cat again and Marley has a new home, so everyone’s happy once more.
