In the Ashland, Oregon, Lauren Taylor and her roommate left their back door open and a mountain lion wandered in. Like most types of cats, the mountain lion simply stretched out and took a nap.

When Lauren Taylor discovered the mountain lion, she communicated to it by blinking, which to cats means a calming presence. The mountain lion blinked back and Lauren managed to get out of the room until the mountain lion woke up and decided to leave on its own.

The next time you want to calm down a cat, try blinking at it. The worst that will happen is that the cat will just ignore you.
