In England, they have three official mousers: Larry (Chief Mouse Catcher of Number 10) Palmerston (Chief Mouse Catcher of the Foreign Office) and Gladstone (Chief Mouse Catcher of the Treasury). While these cats ostensibly work for the government, they do not receive taxpayer money.

Instead, staff donate money to care for all three cats. Now taxpayers can’t complain that their money is being spent frivolously caring for a cat when they now have to worry about their money being spent frivolously by politicians instead.

So everyone in England can relax. Your taxes are not being used to support a cat; just less-than-honorable politicians, which might make you wish your tax money was supporting a cat after all.
