Wild dogs were much larger than today’s domesticated dogs, yet when scientists studied cat skeletons from the time of the Vikings, they found a curious situation. Unlike dogs that tended to get smaller over time, cats actually have gotten larger over time.

Scientists believe it’s because cats of today have access to better food and living conditions where they’re treated as pets rather than vermin or pests. Cats have also learned to control humans better and bend them to their will, so that’s likely a major reason cats keep getting bigger.

Eventually, cats might become larger and smarter than humans, then people will be kept as pets and cats will rule the world, which is probably happening today anyway.
