After a cat scratched a 14-year old boy, the infection gave the teenager suicidal thoughts. Even worse, the boy also began to believe he was the devil’s son.
After doctors tried standard treatments for psychosis, a medic noticed the boy had a number of marks on his skin. A doctor recognized the marks as a symptom of a rare bug called bartonella henselae.
Fortunately, the boy was treated with antimicrobial chemotherapy and went on to make a full recovery. So the next time someone acts weird around a cat, it could be because they are weird or because the cat infected them.
