With the popularity of Grumpy Cat along with Scottish Fold cats and other flat-faced cats, many people want the same types of cats that they see their favorite celebrities carrying with them. However, animal welfare experts warn that breeding flat-faced cats can lead to cats with breathing problems and other lifelong health issues.

The problem is that cat breeds often have genetic health issues due tot he lack of diversity in their genetic makeup. While flat-faced cats might look cute, there are plenty of regular cats that need good homes who can also be just as lovable.

So don’t be seduced into thinking you need a flat-faced cat that will come with genetic problems. Any cat can make a lovable companion no matter what it looks like.
