Ernest Hemingway loved cats, which is why he surrounded himself with felines and wrote that “one cat just leads to another.” That’s why the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum currently houses between 40 and 50 felines.

What’s unique about Hemingway’s cats isn hat most of them have six toes due to the polydactyl gene in their DNA. Each Hemingway cat is also named after a famous person such as “Hairy” Truman, Fats Waller, Kermit “Shine” Forbes, Truman Capote, Bugsy Siegel, Billie Holiday, and Cary Grant.

If you happen to be visiting Key West, Florida, be sure to drop by the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum and visit the cats that live there.
