Cats are territorial animals, which means anything they can see is considered in their territory including your entire house and the neighborhood outside. However, when you bring a cat home for the first time, it may feel uncomfortable being in a new place, so take some time to make your new cat comfortable.
First, consider putting your cat in a single room so it can get acquainted with the smells of its new home. Then gradually let it expand its territory while putting is blankets and toys around your house so it recognizes its own scene and feels more like it belongs.
If you remember the first time you went to a new school, everything felt scary because it was new. That same feeling is what a cat goes through in a new home so make your cat’s transition a pleasant one. Your cat may never thank you except to cause more trouble in your life by shredding the drapes or knocking over fragile vases in return.
