Many people are rightfully worried about artificial intelligence and facial recognition spying on people and degrading their privacy. However, artificial intelligence and facial recognition have found a noble use from an engineer working for the Asian search engine giant Baidu.

To protect cats in cold climates, this shelter uses facial recognition to open a door for any stray cat looking for a warm place. Inside the shelter are toys along with food and water plus a warm space to sleep.

Even more importantly is that the artificial intelligent shelter can check its guests for various diseases and assess whether or not they’ve been neutered. If it identifies a sick cat, a message is sent to a nearby volunteer organization that looks after stray animals to come and administer the required help.
