During both the pandemic and the holiday season, many people want to get a puppy or a kitten. Because so many people want a pet, pet stores and animal shelters may be out of an animal. That’s why online pet scammers have started to prey on people wanting a pet.

Online pet scammers typically show victims pictures of puppies or kittens and ask for money upfront. Once you send them money, you never hear from the scammer again.

So the first rule is never to send money to anyone without seeing the pet first. The second rule is to look for a pet at legitimate places such as pet stores or animal shelters where you can pick out the pet you want and bring it home right away.
