On Jan. 9, 2018, a rainstorm sent a debris-laden torrent crashing down the hillside neighborhoods of Montecito, northwest of Los Angeles. At the time, everyone assumed that Josie Gower had died in the mudslide along with her cat, Patches.

Yet three years after this disaster, someone brought in a stray to an animal shelter and it turned out to be Patches, verified by a microchip. Now Patches has been reunited with Josie Gowers’ partner. How Patches had survived three years in the wild is a mystery, but at least Patches is finally back home again.
