Cats age faster than humans, which explains why cats aggravate humans so much in an effort to prematurely age humans so they can catch up to cats. While the standard rule has been to measure a cat’s age and multiple by seven, that’s not quite accurate.

The American Animal Hospital Association Feline Life Stage Guidelines divides cats into six categories: kitten, junior, prime, mature, senior and geriatric. By tracking the life stage of your cat, you can worry less about your cat’s actual age and focus more on your cat’s stage in its life whether it’s as a senior or as an adult.
