Given a choice between eating food served to them or having to find and hunt their own food, most animals prefer hunting for their food. Except cats. When given a choice between hunting their food or having their food made readily available to them, cats preferred being served instead.

Mikel Delgado, a cat behaviorist and research affiliate at the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine said, “It wasn’t that cats never used the food puzzle, but cats ate more food from the tray, spent more time at the tray and made more first choices to approach and eat from the tray rather than the puzzle.”

The bottom line is that cats are lazy and would rather have their food handed to them rather than forcing them to work for it. So if you think your cat is lazy, you’re right, but serve your cat anyways because that’s what it expects you to do.
