The idea of cloning sounds like science fiction, but cloning has been used to create simple cells all the way up to entire animals like sheep, dogs, and cats. As the cloning procedure improves, the cloned animals are harder to tell apart from non-cloned animals.
Now in China, scientists have cloned a cat that has gone into heat. That’s a breakthrough because that means cloned animals can reproduce. Of course, it’s much easier to pick up a cat at an animal shelter rather than clone one, but at least the scientific process is improving to the point where cloning can be little different than the real thing.
