Declawing a cat can be cruel and painful for a cat, leaving it helpless to defend itself. A much better solution is to provide plenty of scratching posts and pads for your cat to attack so it will leave your furniture alone.

Fortunately, Maryland has passed a law banning declawing. Hopefully more places around the world will ban declawing and allow cats to live their lives without the threat of mutilation of any kind.
