Cats can make wonderful companions, but British veterinarian, Ben Simpson-Vernon, warns of four cat breeds he would avoid for personal and health reasons. Instead of spending money on a particular cat breed, you might as well rescue a cat from an animal shelter and get the same loving creature in a different type of body.

One breed to avoid are Scottish Folds since their folded ears stems from a cartilage disorder, which can affect the rest of their bodies as well. That means Scottish Folds can get arthritis at an early age. Persian cats with a flat face are also at a health risk because they have a harder time breathing.
