Sometimes researchers study the obvious. The latest example of this is occurred when Charlotte de Mouzon and colleagues from Université Paris Nanterre in France investigated how the cats reacted to pre-recorded voices, that included both their owner and a stranger.
Apparently cats can recognize their owner’s voice. Unfortunately, cats often don’t listen to their owners so it doesn’t really matter if they recognize their owner’s voice or not if the cats are just going to ignore them anyways. Then again, if cats didn’t ignore you, they wouldn’t be cats.
