Nineteen feral cats live in Mexico’s National Palace where they can roam freely wherever they wish to go. Now Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has declared them to be “living fixed assets,” the first animals in Mexico to receive the title.
As “living fixed assets”, the cats are now entitled to receive food and care from the Mexican Treasury for the rest of their lives. This is how cats manipulate people into caring for them, which shows that cats are probably more intelligent than most human beings.
