Young people go to etiquette school to learn how to meet people and interact with them. So if the idea of meeting other people can be learned, then perhaps you’d like to learn how to meet a cat.
Even if you have cats, meeting a new cat for the first time requires patience and consideration. Don’t make eye contact since eye contact can be perceived as threatening. Don’t make sudden moves and pay attention to the cat’s body language to see if it’s tense or relaxed.
Above all, make sure the cat is more comfortable than you are. If you can maintain this imbalance, then you can be sure the cat will eventually warm up to you as just another gullible human being it can manipulate at will. When that occurs, you’ll know you have successfully learned how to meet a cat.
