There’s nothing that brings people closer together faster than a shared love for cats. Once you realize that people in other cultures, nations, and religions like their cats too, then you realize that other people are no different than yourself.

So when photographer Marcel Heijnen was walking around his new neighborhood of Sai Ying Pun in Hong Kong, he noticed a cat perched the counter of a small local shop. A year later, he collected all the different pictures of cats he spotted in Hong Kong shops and put them in a book called “Hong Kong Shop Cats.”

By browsing through this book, you can see the way cats in Hong Kong lounge around their owner’s shops. When you realize how cats like to lounge around stores doing nothing, you realize that cats are no different from one part of the world than the other.
