Cats have a reputation for being low-maintenance pets (and also for being pain-in-the-neck pets, but that’s another story altogether). However, even though cats can maintain themselves more so than dogs, that doesn’t mean you can completely ignore your cat and hope that it will take care of itself.

Cats need affection and constant service to show that you’re an inferior being in their presence. Of course, cats also need a human to watch their behavior to look for anything unusual that could signal a potential health problem that needs attention right away.

For example, make sure you’re not overfeeding your cat and making it obese. Also if your cat seems abnormally hyper, it could be a thyroid problem and not just a bizarre cat with a mental disturbance.
