For people unfamiliar with cats, they may think all cats are alike. Yet that’s as silly as thinking that all dogs are alike. There are many different breeds of cats and they all have their own distinctive looks and personalities.
One of the oddest of the long hair cat breeds is the Maine Coon. These muscular cats are one of the larger cat breeds that may be the only cat indigenous to the United States. Maine Coons have long hairs to help them survive the harsh New England winters and allow them to shed just a little bit more on their owner’s couches than a regular cat.
Maine Coons are also very friendly and social, seeking out interaction with humans that doesn’t involve knocking over expensive lamps or shredding expensive drapes. Some Maine Coons can even be leash-trained so you can walk them around for their exercise.
