In case you weren’t in Japan on February 22, you missed Cat Day, an unofficial holiday honoring cats. That’s because the date’s numerals, 2/22 (ni ni ni), are pronounced fairly closely to the sound a cat makes in Japan (nyan nyan nan).

The Japanese celebrate Cat Day by dressing up as cats, playing tricks on their cats, and even making food shaped like cats. If you thought cat ladies in America were obsessed with felines, you need to take a trip to Japan on February 22 and experience Cat Day for yourself.
