While many dogs happily frolic in water, most cats seem terrified of water even though some breeds, such as the Turkish Van, has earned itself the nickname “swimming cat” because of its affinity for water.

If you give a cat a bath when they’re kittens, they’ll often become used to water. However, most cats dislike having wet fur that weighs the animal down, which compromises agility and makes him vulnerable to attack. Generally since most cats never needed to learn how to swim, they dislike getting wet since it provides no advantage to them whatsoever.
