A woman in Spain may be fined between 100 and 600 euros ($112-672) under the 2015 Public Security Law nicknamed the “gag law.” That’s because she was carrying a bag bearing the initials A.C.A.B., which police interpreted to stand for “All Cops Are Bastards” and not “All Cats Are Beautiful,” as was written on the bag.

Does insulting a police officer justify a fine? What if the bag was really meant to glorify cats and the police misinterpreted it as an insult to themselves? Whatever the case, the cats in Spain are completely uninvolved and are probably sleeping and getting high on catnip as you read this.
