When most people have problems with stray cats walking through their yard and leaving droppings behind, they often try shooing the cat away with noise or simply hoping the cat will find another place to go to the bathroom.
Yet Nvidia Systems Software Engineer Robert Bond found another solution. He trained a deep learning neural network to turn on his garden sprinklers whenever it recognized a cat in his front yard.
By showing the neural network picture of cats slinking through a yard, the neural network learned to identify cats when spotted by a video camera, and then turn on the sprinklers to scare the cat away.
