Most outdoor cats like preying on birds and mice. Not Merlin. Merlin happens to live near the Aldeburgh golf course and instead of hunting wildlife, Merlin likes swiping golf balls and bringing them back home.
Peter Bryson, Merlin’s owner, said Merlin would often bring home up to six golf balls a day. The problem has gotten so bad that the club’s official rules now allow golfers, who lose their balls to Merlin, to substitute stolen balls without incurring a penalty.
Perhaps if Merlin were allowed to follow golf tournaments around the world, pro golfers like Tiger Woods would never have gotten the best scores after all. Maybe someone should bribe Merlin to steal golf balls of rival golfers as a way to gain a slight advantage in a game.
