Masha, a stray cat in Obninsk, Russia, was known around the neighborhood and fed by kindly people. On day Masha found an abandoned infant who had been left in a box in the snow. Letting her maternal instincts kick in, Masha kept the infant warm with her own body and meowed until somebody noticed.

“She is very placid and friendly, so when I heard her meowing, I thought that perhaps she had injured herself. Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby,” said local, 68-year old Irina Lavrova.

Now Masha is being heralded as a hero for saving the life of an infant. In return for Masha’s actions, the entire neighborhood has been showering her with her favorite food. Who says cats don’t care about others? Cats do care about others, but as soon as you adopt one, then the cat just seems to stop caring about you.
