Off the coast of Japan, there’s an island called Ainoshima, which measures a little more than a half a square mile, inhabited by around 500 people and hundreds of outdoor cats. The place is known as “Cat Heaven” or “Cat Island” due to the hundreds of cats roaming freely everywhere.

Unfortunately, Cat Island has problems. Because of an overabundance of cats, male cats often fight and hurt one another for territory and mates. Even worse, without proper veterinarian care, many young cats get sick from easily treatable diseases.

While it’s nice to devote an entire island to cats, the cats still need medical treatment. Because humans feed the cats, the cats have overpopulated the island. Essentially Cat Island is what an island might look like after a cat hoarder took it over.
