The Spirit of South Carolina is a Tall Ship berthed in Boston. Of course like many ships, the Spirit of South Carolina has more than just human crew members. On this particular ship, they also have a cat named Pilar.
Cats have accompanied sailors on ships for centuries. That’s because the cats hunt rodents that if left to roam the ships freely, would eat the crew’s provisions, gnaw through ropes, and spread disease.
So the next time you see any type of ship sailing by, just remember they probably have at least one cat on board. There’s probably a human dressed up as the captain but as any cat lover can tell you, you know who’s really in charge of the ship.
