It’s much safer to keep a cat indoors than to let it roam freely in the neighborhood where it could get hit by a car, attacked by dogs, or abused by a malicious person. Yet indoor cats can often get bored without stimulation they might get by being outdoors.

One solution is to build a catio, which is an enclosed area that lets your cat go outside in a protected environment. A second option is to walk your cat on a leash.

Of course, not all cats will like a leash. Experts claim that cats may feel a loss of self control but for many indoor cats, walking is one way to explore the outdoors in safety. Just check with your cat to see if it approves. If not, you’ll learn quickly one way or the other, hopefully without bleeding in the process.
