If your cats keep coughing up disgusting hairballs on your carpet and floors, you may appreciate this trick to reducing hairballs. Since hairballs occur when cats groom themselves and get hair stuck on their tongues that they swallow, one way to reduce hairballs is to feed your cats beets.

Beets contain fiber that makes it easier for the hairball to pass through the cat out one end rather than coming out the front end. That means fewer hairballs but possibly more mess to clean up in a litter box, but cleaning a litter box is far easier than cleaning carpet. Of course, you have to find a way to get your cat to eat beets.
