If your cat brings you dead animals, you may wonder why. (Just be thankful that none of those dead animals are human beings.) Apparently the reason for this stems from female cats.

Mother cats often bring prey to their kittens for food, but if they bring the prey alive, its’ to teach the kittens how to attack and kill prey on their own. By bringing a mouse or bird to kittens, a mother cat is letting them practice hunting and killing animals on their own.

So the next time your cat brings you a dead animal, it’s to help you hone your own killing instincts. If the prey is still alive, that means the cat feels you have the skills necessary to finish the killing yourself, so consider it a compliment.
