For an undergraduate research project at Upper Iowa University, students trapped stray cats to monitor their behavior in the community. The research project puts radio transmitting collars on them.

Unfortunately, Dr. Paul Skrade, assistant professor of wildlife biology at UIU, and his students accidentally trapped a pet cat and put a radio transmitting collar on it. Fortunately this experiment doesn’t harm cats in any way, but it did upset the pet’s owner who did not want the cat used in a research project without permission.

So make sure you know where your cat is at all times. That’s likely impossible, but the more you can track your cat, the less likely you’ll be worried about its whereabouts later.
