Every ten years, the United States takes a census to get a rough idea how many people live in different parts of the country. In Washington D.C., they’re also taking a census but it involves cats.

For the past two years, researchers have been collecting pictures of cats in the wild. Now someone has to go through all six million photos to count how many cats they see. By getting an accurate count of the number of feral cats, researchers hope to manage the feral cat population.
