Thatsaphon Saii, 23, of the Royal Thai Navy’s Air and Coastal Defence Command Operation Unit 491, was part of a rescue mission to investigate a boat that had caught on fire and was starting to sink. That’s when someone noticed four cats huddled on the crane structure of the sinking ship.

Thinking quickly, Saii put on a life vest and swam 50ft out to the capsized boat. As he gathered in the four cats, his shipmates helped haul him and the four ginger cats to safety. The cats are currently being cared for by their rescuers and will hopefully find a good home soon.
