The Japanese love cats. That’s why the Japanese gave a cat, named Nitama, the official title of stationmaster cat at Kishi Station. Since Nitama has performed well helping run a train station, officials gave her a new role as chief priest of Tama Shrine.

Wakayama Electric President Mitsunobu Kojima said, “Nitama will work hard as chief priest of Tama Shrine.” He further expressed hope that the appointment of Nitama would help bring peace and “brighten the world that’s been darkened by the coronavirus.”
