When people die, it’s natural for those close to the deceased to feel a sense of grief. Not surprisingly, researchers discovered that when an animal close to a cat dies, cats can also experience a sense of grief.

Why researchers ever thought that cats can’t experience emotions remains a mystery, but researchers at Oakland University say the evidence shows that cats are not aloof and distant as the stereotype may portray them. Instead, cats can experience a wide range of emotions including grief, which should surprise exactly no cat owner in the history of the universe.
