Watch any bored office worker in front of a computer and that person will likely be playing Solitaire or looking at cat videos. That shows the power and attraction of cats that make them more interesting than anything nearby.
Not surprisingly, researchers discovered that cats can hinder a child’s ability to learn new words. When confronted by a new word, children are more likely to assume that new word refers to an unfamiliar object. But if that unfamiliar object appears next to a familiar object like a cat, then children get distracted and prefer looking at the cat instead of learning anything any more.
So if you think your cat is a distraction, you’re right. Just don’t let your cat distract you from cleaning its litter box or feeding it on time.
