When most people think of cats, they either think of domestic cats in a home or wild cats like lions, tigers, and leopards. Yet there are so many other types of cats in the world and one of more mysterious ones are the forest cats of Madagascar.
Researchers captured several forest cats and studied their genetic makeup to learn that the forest cats aren’t just feral cats that were once in a home. Instead, these forest cats shared DNA from cats in Dubai, Kuwait and Oman in the Persian Gulf. Most likely they arrived through trade routes.
Most people watch cats for the entertainment value but you can also study cats for their scientific value as well. By tracking the lineage of cats, you can learn a little bit of history along the way, courtesy of a forest cat.
