Every cat owner knows that cats are furry little killing machines, but the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology reports on a previously unknown cat species that was recently found near Madrid, Spain. Although this ancient cat only weighed around 16 pounds, its jaw muscles were much stronger than a domestic cat’s jaw muscles.

Scientists believe this cat species roamed the Earth during the Middle Miocene, which spanned a period from 16 to 11 million years ago. Scientists named the cat peignei in honor of French paleontologist Stéphane Peigné. So if you can discover a new cat species, you too can get a cat named after you. Or better yet, just name your next adopted cat after yourself so you can feel important.
