Jenny the cat lived on the Titanic and roamed its decks to keep the ship rodent free. When the Titanic sank, Jenny was nowhere to be found and was presumed to have died in the sinking. However, another story says that Jenny may have actually survived.
Before the Titanic’s doomed voyage, Jenny gave birth to a litter of kittens, who were cared for by an Irish stoker named Joseph Mulholland. When Joseph spotted Jenny taking her kittens off the ship at the dock in Southampton, he took that as a bad omen and let the ship sail on without him.
As a result, Jenny may have not only saved her own life but the life of the friendly stoker who had been caring for her and her kittens. So the next time you spot a cat abandoning ship, you might want to heed its warning before its too late.
